Mari Amos is an Estonian who has graduated from the law faculty in Estonia, done MA in Lund on European Studies as well as an MPh in Tartu on Public Health with focus on mental health of population. In addition, she has obtained a diploma from the Estonian School of Diplomacy as well as a microdegree from Taltech on strategic management and policy analysis in the public sector. She is currently enrolled to the Estonian Business School on the subject of leadership in health care sector.

During her career, she has worked in different public institutions in Estonia, mainly on the fields of health care and social policies. She has also participated on the team of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union as a focal point to the European Parliament with committees of ENVI, EMPL and FEMM. Mari Amos has coordinated the implementation of several European Union legal acts in Estonia on health-related fields focusing i.a on the aspect of informed consent in cases of cross border provision of services.

In addition, Ms.Amos was eight years member of the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture, head of its European Regional team as well as a member of the working group on health. As a member, she was paying special attention to mental and somatic health related aspects of detention. Currently, she is a member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
